The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth has been extended 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 and will return rejoicing to his family. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 but he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 and by the night and what it enfolds, 17 And by the moon when she becometh full. 18 [That] you will surely experience state after state. 19 So what is [the matter] with them [that] they do not believe, 20 Why, when the Quran is recited to them, do they not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 Therefore give them the glad tidings of a painful punishment. 24 except those that believe, and do righteous deeds -- theirs shall be a wage unfailing. 25
