Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 There surely is an oath for thinking man. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And the tribe of Thamud, who hewed rocks in the valley. 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Verily thy Lord is in an ambuscade, 14 As for the human being, when his Lord tests him, honors him, and grants him bounty, he says, "God has honored me". 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 Serene soul, 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
