The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I CALL TO witness the sun and his early morning splendour, 1 By the moon when it followeth it, 2 and by the day when it displays him 3 and the night as it veils it darkly! 4 by the sky and how He built it 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 Indeed successful is the one who made it pure. 9 and those who corrupt their souls will certainly be deprived (of happiness). 10 Thamood belied in their pride 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 The Messenger of God told them, "This is a she-camel, belonging to God. Do not deprive her of her share of water". 13 But they denied him and hamstrung her. So their Lord brought down upon them destruction for their sin and made it equal [upon all of them]. 14 for none [of them] had any fear of what might befall them. 15
