The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 No Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk) will they hear therein, nor any sinful speech (like backbiting, etc.). 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 and clustered bananas, 29 and amid the extended shade 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 So made them as maidens. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For the companions of the right [who are] 38
