Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the daybreak, 1 And the ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Did you (O Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) not see (thought) how your Lord dealt with 'Ad (people)? 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Not at all – but rather you do not honour the orphan. 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you eat away the heritage, devouring (everything) indiscriminately, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And when the command of your Lord comes – and the angels row by row, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 Then on that Day Allah will chastise as none other can chastise; 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
