The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 Taught to him by one intense in strength - 5 [an angel] endowed with surpassing power, who in time manifested himself in his true shape and nature, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The (Prophet's) heart lied not (in seeing) what he (Muhammad SAW) saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near which is Paradise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
