The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 concerning which they have disputes. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, but they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 And have appointed the night as a cloak, 10 and made the day for earning a livelihood. 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 And We made a shining lamp, 13 And We have sent down from the rain-clouds water plenteous. 14 That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation 15 And gardens thick with trees. 16 Surely, the Day of Judgement has an appointed time. 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Gehenna (Hell) has become an ambush, 21 A place of resort for the inordinate, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 a fitting requital, 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
