Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 laboring, wornout, 3 roasting at a scorching fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 they shall have no food but thorns, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 Pleased with their striving,- 9 They will be in a lofty Garden 10 Where they shall neither hear harmful speech nor falsehood, 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 Within it are couches raised high 13 And goblets set at hand 14 Cushions arranged, 15 and well spread carpets. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 So remind, [O Muhammad]; you are only a reminder. 21 Thou art not one to manage (men's) affairs. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 Then Allah will punish him with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed only towards Us is their return 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
