۞ (And it is said unto the angels): Assemble those who did wrong, together with their wives and what they used to worship 22 Beside Allah, and lead them on to the path of the Flaming Fire. 23 And stop them, for they shall be questioned: 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 Nay, but that day they shall submit (to Judgment); 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 Those say, 'No; on the contrary, you were not believers; 29 we had no authority over you; no, you were an insolent people. 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So indeed they, that Day, will be sharing in the punishment. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and said: 'Are we to renounce our gods for the sake of a mad poet' 36 "Surely, he has brought the truth, confirming those who were sent before; 37 Ye shall indeed taste of the Grievous Penalty;- 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 Save the servants of Allah, the purified ones. 40 For them awaits a known provision, 41 Fruits, and they shall be highly honored, 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 On couches facing one another; 44 Round them will be passed a cup of pure wine; 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 Free from headiness; nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 They will have with them loving wives with big black and white eyes 48 As though they were eggs hidden. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 A speaker among them will say, "Indeed, I had a companion [on earth] 51 “Who used to tell me, ‘Do you believe it is true?’ – 52 ‘That when we are dead and have turned into dust and bones, that we will either be rewarded or punished?’ 53 He will say: -- Do you wish to know where he is now?' 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 and says: "By God! Verily, thou hast almost destroyed me [too, O my erstwhile companion] 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 But then, [O my friends in paradise,] is it [really] so that we are not to die 58 Other than our first death, and we shall not be punished? 59 Indeed, this is the mighty victory, 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 which We have made as a torment for the unjust? 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 Its fruit like the heads of demons. 65 Then most surely they shall eat of it and fill (their) bellies with it. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 Truly they found their fathers on the wrong Path; 69 and rushed to follow them. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Observe, then, what was the end of those that had been warned, 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
