Elucidated (Fussilat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
HA MIM. 1 A revelation from Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful. 2 a divine writ, the messages whereof have been clearly spelled out as a discourse in the Arabic tongue for people of [innate] knowledge, 3 A bearer of glad tidings and a warner. Yet most of them turn aside, so that they hearken not. 4 And they say: Our hearts are under coverings from that to which you call us, and there is a heaviness in our ears, and a veil hangs between us and you, so work, we too are working. 5 Say thou, [O Prophet:] "I am but a mortal like you. It has been revealed to me that your God is the One God: go, then, straight towards Him and seek His forgiveness!" And woe unto those who ascribe divinity to aught beside Him, 6 Those who do not give the obligatory charity, and who deny the Hereafter. 7 Surely those who believe, and do righteous deeds shall have a wage unfailing.' 8
