The tribe of Thamud also rejected Our warnings: 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Why - on him alone from among all of us should a [divine] reminder have been bestowed? Nay, but he is a boastful liar!" 25 (We told Our Messenger): “Tomorrow they shall know who is the insolent liar. 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 Tell them that the water is to be divided between them, a drink each for them in turn' 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 How was then My punishment of which they had been warned? 30 Then We sent a single blast against them and they became like dry stubble which has been trampled upon. 31 And We have indeed made the Qur’an easy to memorise, so is there one who would remember? 32 The people of Lut belied the warnings. 33 Surely We sent upon them a stonestorm, except Lut's followers; We saved them a little before daybreak, 34 As grace from Us. Thus We reward him who giveth thanks. 35 Lot warned them against Our torment, but they persistently disputed it. 36 And they tried to persuade him regarding his guests – We therefore blinded their eyes, “So taste My punishment, and My warnings.” 37 Indeed an abiding chastisement came upon them in the morning. 38 So taste My punishment and warning. 39 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 40
