The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Nigh unto the lote-tree at the boundary. 14 Near it is the Garden of Abode. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
