NAY, but consider the moon! 32 and by the night when it recedes, 33 And by the dawn when it brightens, 34 it is one of the greatest trials, 35 as a warner to mortals. 36 To him among you who wishes to go forward or remain behind. 37 Every soul is held in pledge against its own deeds, 38 Except those of the right hand 39 [Who will be] in gardens, questioning each other 40 Concerning the guilty: 41 "What has brought you into hell-fire?" 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 and we did not feed the poor, 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who entered into vain discourses. 45 "And used to deny the Day of Justice." 46 Till death overtook us. 47 Then the intercession of the intercessors shall not profit them. 48 Then what is the matter with them that they turn away from admonition?- 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 No, indeed, surely, this is a Reminder. 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 they will only take heed if God so wills: He is the Lord who is worthy to be feared: the Lord of forgiveness. 56
