The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
19 verses, revealed in Mecca. First revelation of the Quran before The Pen (Al-Qalam)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Createth man from a clot. 2 Recite: And thy Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 The One Who taught man all what he did not know. 5 Indeed, surely the human is very insolent 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Verily unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth 9 A servant when he prays? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah doth see? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
