The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And couches raised up. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 loving and of equal age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
