[AND the tribe of] Ad gave the lie to [one of God's] message-bearers 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 You construct monuments on every hill in vain, 128 Erect palaces (thinking) that you will live for ever, 129 And whenever you apply force become tyrannical. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Fear Him who has bestowed on you what you know, 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 This has been happening all along. 137 And we are not going to be punished. 138 And they denied him, so We destroyed them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 139 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
