And We had certainly given Moses the Scripture and appointed with him his brother Aaron as an assistant. 35 then We said to them, "Go to the people who have treated Our Revelations as false. " So We annihilated those people utterly. 36 We drowned the people of Noah also when they rejected their messengers and We made them an example to all mankind. We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers, 37 And the tribes of A’ad and the Thamud, and the people of the Wells, and many a generation between them. 38 And for each We presented examples [as warnings], and each We destroyed with [total] destruction. 39 Surely, these people have passed by that habitation on which was rained an evil rain: have they not seen its ruins? But they do not expect another life in the Hereafter. 40 Whenever they see you they only make a mockery of you -- "Is this the one God has sent as His Messenger? 41 Indeed, he would well-nigh have led us astray from our deities, had we not been [so] steadfastly attached to them!" When they behold the punishment, they shall realize who strayed furthest from the right path. 42 How can you be the guardian of those who have chosen their own desires as their Lord? 43 Or do you think that most of them do hear or understand? They are nothing but as cattle; nay, they are straying farther off from the path. 44
