And recite to them the news of Abraham. 69 When he said unto his father and his folk: What worship ye? 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He said, 'Do they hear you when you call, 72 Or, benefit they you or hurt they you? 73 They said: "Nay, but we found our fathers doing thus (what we do)." 74 He said: "Do ye then see whom ye have been worshipping,- 75 You and your fathers? 76 Surely they are enemies to me, but not (so) the Lord of the worlds; 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 It is He who gives me food and drink 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 who makes me to die, then gives me life, 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me of the heirs of the garden of bliss 85 Forgive me and my father: He was surely among those who went astray. 86 and disgrace me not on the Day when people will be raised to life, 87 The day on which property will not avail, nor sons 88 But to him who comes to God with a tranquil heart." 89 (On that Day) the Garden will be brought near to the God-fearing, 90 and Hell advanced for the perverse. 91 who will be asked, "What did you worship 92 "'Besides Allah? Can they help you or help themselves?' 93 So they shall be thrown down into it, they and the erring ones, 94 And the soldiers of Iblees, all together. 95 They shall say, as they dispute there one with another, 96 'By God, we were certainly in manifest error 97 When we equalled you with the Lord of the worlds. 98 And no one misguided us except the criminals. 99 So none we have as intercessors. 100 Nor a close friend (to help us). 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 And lo, thy Lord! He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
