The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 facing one another. 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and there shall be wide-eyed maidens, 22 Like unto preserved pearls. 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 except each other's greetings of, "Peace be with you". 26 The Companions of the Right 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And shade extended 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
