The Thamud gave the lie to the Messengers. 141 When their brother Salih (Saleh) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 So fear Allah and obey me. 144 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 145 Will you be left in what is here, secure [from death], 146 "Gardens and Springs, 147 And fields of crops and palm trees with softened fruit? 148 “And you carve out dwellings in the mountains, with skill?” 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 And do not obey the order of the transgressors, 151 Who work corruption in the land and rectify not. 152 They said, “You are under a magic spell.” 153 You are but a human like ourselves. Produce for us a sign, if you are of the truthful' 154 He said: (Behold) this she-camel. She hath the right to drink (at the well), and ye have the right to drink, (each) on an appointed day. 155 And touch her not with ill lest there come on you the retribution of an awful day. 156 They slew the she-camel, but later became regretful 157 For they were seized by the torment. Verily there was a sign in this, but most of them did not believe. 158 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
