The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On thrones woven [with ornament], 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and the flesh of birds, as they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 All this shall be theirs as a reward for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And spreading shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Indeed We formed them (the houris and all believing women), 35 And have made them virgins. 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
