The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 arise and give warning! 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 And your clothing purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 that very Day shall be a day of anguish, 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me and him whom I created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 and children as [love's] witnesses, 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 May he be accursed, how he planned! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 Then looked he, 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 This is not but the word of a human being." 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 and what will teach thee what is Sakar? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 scorching the flesh; 29 and it has nineteen angelic keepers. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
