And they ask you about Dhul-Qarnain. Say: "I shall recite to you something of his story." 83 Verily We established his power on earth, and We gave him the ways and the means to all ends. 84 and he followed a way 85 Until when he reached the place where the sun set, he found it going down into a black sea, and found by it a people. We said: O Zulqarnain! either give them a chastisement or do them a benefit. 86 He said: "We will chastise him who does wrong, whereafter he will be returned to his Lord and He will chastise him grievously. 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 Then he followed (another) course. 89 Until when he reached the land of the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people to whom We had given no shelter from It; 90 Thus it was. And surely We have encompassed all that was with him in knowledge 91 He travelled 92 when he reached between the two barriers he found on one side of them a nation who could barely understand speech. 93 They said, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are ravaging this land. Would you establish a barrier between us and them if we pay you a certain tax?" 94 He said: That in which my Lord has established me is better, therefore you only help me with workers, I will make a fortified barrier between you and them; 95 Bring me ingots of iron!' Until, when he had made all level between the two cliffs, he said, 'Blow!' Until, when he had made it a fire, he said, 'Bring me, that I may pour molten brass on it.' 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 [Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true." 98 ۞ We shall leave them on that day surging like waves pressing one against the other, and the trumpet blast will be sounded, when We shall gather them all together. 99 On that day we shall present hell to the disbelievers, plain to view, 100 whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were not able to hear. 101
