The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 and for the sake of your Lord, be patient. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 whom I have endowed with abundant riches, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 And yet he desires that I should add more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Yea, Woe to him; How he plotted!- 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 It scorches people's skin 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
