The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Muhammad SAW) enveloped (in garments)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your clothing, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Not easy upon the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone with he whom I created 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And sons present by his side. 13 And made things easy for them. 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 What an evil plan he has made! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 Then frowned and grimaced. 22 Then he turned back and was haughty; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are nineteen [angels]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
