The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ What are they questioning each other about? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Have We not made the earth a resting place? 6 and the mountains [its] pegs? 7 Have We not created you in pairs, 8 And have made your sleep as a thing for rest. 9 and made the night a covering, 10 And made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And placed a lamp therein brightly burning. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Surely the Day of Judgement has an appointed time; 17 On that Day when the trumpet shall be sounded, you shall come in droves, 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 and the mountains shall be made to vanish, as if they had been a mirage. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Except boiling water, and dirty wound discharges. 25 a fitting requital, 26 For indeed they did not look forward to any reckoning, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 So taste you (the results of your evil actions); no increase shall We give you, except in torment. 30
