Also, it is not a sin if you divorce your wives before the consummation of the marriage or the fixing of the dowry. But the dowry will be due from a husband whether he is rich or poor. It is payable in a reasonable amount according to the husband's financial ability. This is an obligation for the righteous ones. 236 And if you divorce them before you have touched them and you have already specified for them an obligation, then [give] half of what you specified - unless they forego the right or the one in whose hand is the marriage contract foregoes it. And to forego it is nearer to righteousness. And do not forget graciousness between you. Indeed Allah, of whatever you do, is Seeing. 237 Be guardians of your prayers, and of the midmost prayer, and stand up with devotion to Allah. 238 When you are exposed to danger, pray on foot or while riding; when you are safe again, remember God, for He has taught you what you did not know. 239 And those among you who die leaving wives behind them – they should bequeath for their wives a complete provision for one full year without turning them out; so if they go out themselves, there is no sin on you regarding what they do of themselves in a reasonable manner; and Allah is Almighty, Wise. 240 For divorced women a provision in kindness: a duty for those who ward off (evil). 241 So God makes clear His signs for you; haply you will understand. 242
