The Romans (Al-Room)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ AlifLaamMeem. 1 The Romans have been defeated (by the Persians) 2 In the neighbouring land. But having been conquered they will conquer 3 In a few years (less than ten). God's is the imperative first and last. On that day the believers will rejoice 4 in the victory of Allah. Allah gives victory to whosoever He will, and He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 5 [It is] the promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise, but most of the people do not know. 6 They know but the outer (things) in the life of this world: but of the End of things they are heedless. 7 Have they not inwardly pondered – that Allah has not created the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, except with truth and a fixed term? And indeed many people deny the meeting with their Lord. 8 Have they not travelled through the land and seen what end their predecessors met? They were mightier than them: they cultivated the earth more and built more upon it than these have ever built. Their own messengers also came to them with clear signs: God did not wrong them; they wronged themselves. 9 The end of the evil-doers was terrible, for they had rejected the revelations of God and mocked them. 10
