The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
A questioner asked about a Penalty to befall- 1 (a chastisement meant) for the unbelievers, one which none can avert; 2 From Allah, the Lord of the ways of Ascent. 3 On that Day (of Judgment), long as fifty thousand years, the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him. 4 Therefore patiently endure, in the best manner (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him). 5 Indeed, they see it [as] distant, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 Upon the day when heaven shall be as molten copper 8 The mountains like the tufts of (carded) wool, 9 and no friend will ask about his friend, 10 They will be shown each other. The criminal will wish that he could be ransomed from the punishment of that Day by his children 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 and whosoever is in the earth, all together, so that then it might deliver him. 14 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell 15 will strip-off the flesh 16 It will summon whoever turns his back and flees, 17 and amassed wealth and hoarded it. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 [As a rule,] whenever misfortune touches him, he is filled with self-pity; 20 but when good comes upon him, he is grudging 21 except those that pray 22 and constant in their prayers. 23 And those in whose wealth there is a fixed portion. 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 And those who believe in the Day of Recompense, 26 and are fearful of the punishment of their Lord; 27 Surely no one can be secure from the punishment of his Lord, -- 28 And those who guard their private parts 29 [not giving way to their desires] with any but their spouses - that is, those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock]: for then, behold, they are free of all blame, 30 But he who seeks to go beyond this, these it is that go beyond the limits-- 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who are constant in their prayers. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
