O ye messengers! Eat of the good things, and do right. Lo! I am Aware of what ye do. 51 Verily this your order is one order, and I am your Lord, so fear Me. 52 The people divided themselves into many sects, each with their own book and each happy with whatever they had. 53 So leave them immersed in their heedlessness till an appointed time. 54 Do they fancy that Our continuing to give them wealth and children (means) that 55 We provide them with the means of competing with each other in virtuous deeds, but they do not realize this. 56 Lo! those who go in awe for fear of their Lord. 57 Who believe in their Lord's revelations, 58 who associate none with their Lord in His Divinity, 59 who give what they give, with their hearts quaking, that they will return to their Lord: 60 It is these who race for the good deeds, and they are foremost in them [e.g. offering the compulsory Salat (prayers) in their (early) stated, fixed times and so on]. 61 We do not lay a burden on anyone beyond his capacity. We have a Book with Us that speaks the truth (about everyone); and they shall in no wise be wronged. 62 NAY, [as for those who have torn asunder the unity of faith] - their hearts are lost in ignorance of all this! But apart from that [breach of unity] they have [on their conscience even worse] deeds; and they will [continue to] commit them 63 But then when We seize the affluent among them, they will cry out for help. 64 (We shall say): 'Do not groan today, surely you shall receive no help from Us' 65 My revelations were recited unto you, but ye used to turn back on your heels, 66 being proud against it, talking foolishness by night. 67 Pondered they not over the Word? or came there unto them that which came not unto their fathers ancient? 68 Or know they not their messenger, and so reject him? 69 Or do they say: "There is madness in him"? Nay, he has brought them the truth - and the truth do most of them detest! 70 And if the truth had been in accordance with their desires, verily, the heavens and the earth, and whosoever is therein would have been corrupted! Nay, We have brought them their reminder, but they turn away from their reminder. 71 Are you asking them for something? What Allah has given you is the best. He is the Best of providers. 72 But verily thou callest them to the Straight Way; 73 But those who believe not in the Hereafter turn away from the straight path. 74 ۞ And if We show mercy to them and remove the distress they have, they would persist in their inordinacy, blindly wandering on. 75 We seized them with the punishment, but they did not surrender to their Lord, nor will they humble themselves 76 until We open before them a gate of harsh punishment and then they will be dumbfounded. 77
