Al-Mutaffifeen
The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
36 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Spider (Al-Ankaboot) before The Heifer (Al-Baqarah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but when they have to measure or weigh whatever they owe to others, give less than what is due! 3 Do they not think that they will be resurrected 4 On a grievous day, 5 a Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the Universe? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And what will make thee know whatsoever the record in Sijjin is? 8 (There is) a Register (fully) inscribed. 9 Woe, on that Day, to those who reject, 10 Those who deny the Day of Justice. 11 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor, 12 When Our verses are recited to him, he says, "Legends of the former peoples." 13 No indeed; but that they were earning has rusted upon their hearts. 14 No indeed; but upon that day they shall be veiled from their Lord, 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 Then, it will be said to them: "This is what you used to deny!" 17 Indeed the record of the virtuous is in the highest place, the Illiyin. 18 What could let you know what the 'Illiyoon is! 19 a written record, 20 Which is witnessed by those brought near [to Allah]. 21 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight, 22 resting on couches, looking around. 23 You shall see upon their faces the glow of bliss. 24 as they are given to drink of a wine sealed 25 whose seal is musk -- so after that let the strivers strive -- 26 And mixed with water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which those brought near (to their Lord) drink. 28 BEHOLD, those who have abandoned themselves to sin are wont to laugh at such as have attained to faith 29 And wink one to another when they passed them; 30 And whilst returning to their homes, they used to return rejoicing. 31 and when they saw them they said, 'Lo, these men are astray!' 32 But they had not been sent as guardians over them. 33 But today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers; 34 On Thrones (of Dignity) they will command (a sight) (of all things). 35 The infidels have indeed been rewarded for that which they had been doing. 36
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
