The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And the creating of the male and the female, 3 surely your striving is to diverse ends. 4 Thus, as for him who gives [to others] and is conscious of God, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 So We will very soon provide him ease. 7 But for those who are niggardly, horde their wealth, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 We shall pave his way to hardship, 10 and his wealth shall be of no avail to him when he perishes. 11 Surely, in Our hands is guidance, 12 And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 none shall enter it but the most wicked, 15 who belied and turned away, 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who gives away his wealth, purifying himself 18 And is under no one's obligation to return his favour, 19 But only seeking the Countenance of his Lord the Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
