The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 "His plan is to get you out of your land: then what is it ye counsel?" 110 They said: "Keep him and his brother in suspense (for a while); and send to the cities men to collect- 111 To bring each knowing wizard unto thee. 112 And the magicians came to Pharaoh. They said, "Indeed for us is a reward if we are the predominant." 113 He said: "Yes, and moreover you will (in that case) be of the nearest (to me)." 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ Thus was the truth established, and their doings proved in vain. 118 So they were vanquished there, and they turned about, humbled. 119 And the enchanters were thrown down, prostrating (themselves). 120 [and] exclaiming: "We have come to believe in the Sustainer of all the worlds, 121 the Sustainer of Moses and Aaron!" 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I will surely cut off your hands and your feet on opposite sides; then I will surely crucify you all." 124 They said: Surely to our Lord shall we go back: 125 You would take revenge on us only because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us.
