The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with a shaking [severe,] 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 And the foremost in the race, the foremost in the race: 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In gardens of delight; 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 facing one another. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 Midst lote-trees thornless. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 and spreading shade 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And raised couches; 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 So made them as maidens. 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for those on the Right, 38
