a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a company of the later peoples. 40 As for the People on the Left: how miserable will be the People on the Left! 41 Amidst scorching wind and scalding water. 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 (That shadow) neither cool, nor (even) good, 44 They had lived in luxury before this 45 And they used to persist in the great violation, 46 and constantly said: 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we then be restored to life? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 (Muhammad), say, "All the ancient and later generations 49 “They will all be gathered together – on the appointed time of the known day.” 50 Then you erring ones, you that cried lies, 51 "You verily will eat of the trees of Zaqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 "And drink boiling water on top of it, 54 Drinkers even as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We created you, why will you not believe! 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Do ye create it or are We the Creator? 59 We have decreed among you Death; We shall not be outstripped; 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Just ponder over what you sow: 63 Is it you who cultivate it, or is it We Who develop it? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 'We are debt-loaded; 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have ye observed the water which ye drink? 68 Is it you who caused it to descend from the cloud, or is it We Who cause it to descend? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Have you thought about the fire you kindle? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We! it is We Who made it a reminder and a provision unto the campers. 73 Then glorify with praises the Name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
