In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 Half of it - or subtract from it a little 3 or a little more, but recite the Quran slowly and distinctly. 4 For We are about to send down to you a message of considerable gravity. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 Remember the Name of your Lord and dedicate yourself devoutly to Him. 8 Lord of the east and the west! No God is there but He! Wherefore take Him for thy trustee. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 for with Us there are fetters, and a furnace, 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 on the Day when the earth and the mountains will be convulsed and the mountains will [crumble and] become like a sand-dune on the move! 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you, disbelieve, how will you be able to protect yourselves from the hardships of the day which would even turn children grey-headed? 17 The Day when the heavens will be rent asunder and God's promise shall be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
