By the moon, 32 by the retreating night, 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 That (Hell) is surely one of the greater (signs), 35 A warning to mankind,- 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 [On the Day of Judgment,] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever [evil] he has wrought 38 Save those who will stand on the right hand. 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 Concerning the culprits: 41 What hath brought you to this burning? 42 and they shall reply, "We were not among those who prayed; 43 And we used not to feed the poor; 44 And we have been wading with the waders. 45 and we denied the Day of Judgement 46 “Till death overcame us.” 47 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then. 48 What is the matter with them that they turn away from this Reminder, 49 like frightened donkeys 50 Fleeing away from a lion. 51 Rather each one of them desires that he should be given open Books. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay, this surely is an admonition: 54 Let him then who heeds remember it. 55 No one will seek guidance unless God wills it. He alone is worthy of being feared and He is the Source of Forgiveness. 56
