The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the sun and its morning brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 by the day when it brightens the earth, 3 The night when it covers him over, 4 By the heaven and Who built it, 5 by the earth and Who spread it, 6 And the soul and Him Who made it perfect, 7 and inspired it with its sin and its piety, 8 He will indeed be successful who purifies it, 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride, 11 When the most wicked among them stood up in defiance. 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they gave him the lie, and hamstrung the she-camel. So their Lord destroyed them for their crime and razed their city to the ground. 14 And He does not fear the consequence thereof. 15
