And the chiefs of his people, who disbelieved and denied the Meeting in the Hereafter, and to whom We had given the luxuries and comforts of this life, said: "He is no more than a human being like you, he eats of that which you eat, and drinks of what you drink. 33 And were ye to obey a human being like you, ye are forthwith to be losers. 34 Does he promise you that when you are dead and are reduced to dust and bones, you will be brought forth to life? 35 ۞ After, after with that which you are promised! 36 There is naught but our life of the world; we die and we live, and we shall not be raised (again). 37 He is only a man who has invented a lie about God, and we are not going to believe him!" 38 (The prophet) said: "O my Lord! help me: for that they accuse me of falsehood." 39 He replied: 'Before long, by the morning, they shall be remorseful' 40 And then the blast [of Our punishment] overtook them, justly and unavoidably, and We caused them to become as the flotsam of dead leaves and the scum borne on the surface of a torrent: and so - away with those evildoing folk! 41 Then after them We brought forth other generations. 42 No nation can go before its term ends nor stay back. 43 Then We sent Our Messengers in succession. Yet whenever its Messenger came to a nation they belied him, so We made them follow others, and We made them but as tales, so begone the nation who did not believe! 44 Then We sent Moses and his brother Aaron with Our signs and clear authority 45 To Pharaoh and his Chiefs: But these behaved insolently: they were an arrogant people. 46 They said: "Shall we believe in two men like ourselves? And their people are subject to us!" 47 So they cried them lies, and they were among the destroyed. 48 And We certainly gave Moses the Scripture that perhaps they would be guided. 49 We made the son of Mary and his mother a sign, and gave them a refuge on a hillside where there was a hollow and a spring. 50
