He Frowned ('Abasa)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 you attend to him, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and fearfully, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes (angels). 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Indeed, he has not fulfilled that which He has ordered him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but others will be gloomy 40 Blackness will cover them: 41 It is they, the disbelievers, the sinners. 42
