The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Recite: In the Name of thy Lord who created, 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous - 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 taught the human what he did not know. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 Because he sees himself free from want. 7 However, (all things) will return to your Lord. 8 Have you seen him who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 Or enjoineth piety? 12 What thinkest thou? If he cries lies, and turns away - 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 Let him know that if he does not desist, We shall certainly drag him by his forelocks, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 (Muhammad), never yield to him! Prostrate yourself and try to come closer to God. ۩ 19
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
