He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Though it is no blame to thee if he grow not (in spiritual understanding). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 and in awe of God 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 NAY, VERILY, these [messages] are but a reminder: 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 [It is recorded] in honored sheets, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 How We pour water in showers 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and grass, 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 wife and sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and overcast with gloom: 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
