(The tribe of) A’ad denied the Noble Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said unto them: fear ye not? 124 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 125 "So fear Allah and obey me. 126 And I do not ask you for it any payment. My payment is only from the Lord of the worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And will you [always,] whenever you lay hand [on others,] lay hand [on them] cruelly, without any restraint? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 And fear Him Who hath aided you with that which ye know. 132 He has given you cattle, children, 133 gardens, and springs. 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: It is the same to us whether you admonish or are not one of the admonishers 136 This is just a habit of antiquated people. 137 "And we are not going to be punished." 138 So they belied him, and We destroyed them. Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
