He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because a blind man came to him. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And as for him who cometh unto thee running, 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Records held (greatly) in honour (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz). 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 From what thing doth He create him? 18 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him, 19 He makes his path easy for him. 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We send down abundant water, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And his spouse and his son-- 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
