The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Of what do they ask one another? 1 Concerning the Great News, 2 concerning which they are in disagreement! 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 Nay, again, they will come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and We appointed day for a livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And placed (therein) a Light of Splendour? 13 And do We not send down from the clouds water in abundance, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 the Day that the Horn is blown, and you shall come in crowds 18 and when the sky shall be opened up and will become all doors; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Surely hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will tarry therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 only burning despair and ice-cold darkness: 25 The reward to each is according to what he is. 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And We have kept recorded everything in a Book, accounted for. 29 [So We shall say], "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
