And recite to them the tiding of Abraham 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they hear you, when you call (on them)? 72 “Or do they benefit you or harm you?” 73 They said, "No, but our fathers worshipped them." 74 He said: have ye observed that which ye worship 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 they are all my enemies, not so the Lord of the Universe, 77 Who created me and Who guides me; 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I am ill, it is He who cures me 80 And Who causeth me to die, then giveth me life (again), 81 And He Who, I long, shall forgive me my faults, on the Day of Requital. 82 My Lord! Vouchsafe me wisdom and unite me to the righteous. 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 And place me among the inheritors of the Garden of Delight, 85 And forgive my father, for surely he is of those who have gone astray; 86 And abase me not on the day when they are raised, 87 the day when neither wealth nor sons shall profit 88 but only he that brings to Allah a sound heart will (attain to success)." 89 and Paradise shall be brought forward to the cautious. 90 And the (Hell) Fire will be placed in full view of the erring. 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 "Then they will be thrown headlong into the (Fire),- they and those straying in Evil, 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 "They will say there in their mutual bickerings: 96 "By Allah, we were surely in clear error 97 when we made you equal with the Lord of the Universe. 98 And none but the guilty led us astray; 99 so now we have no intercessors, 100 Nor a true friend; 101 O that we might return again, and be among the believers!' 102 Surely, in that there is a sign, yet most of them do not believe. 103 And verily thy Lord is He, the Exalted in Might, Most Merciful. 104
