The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Thinketh he that none hath power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or some needy person in distress, 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 They are those on the Right Hand (the dwellers of Paradise), 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
