The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you – his illustrious son! 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 Yet, he has not entered into Aqaba 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave 13 Or, feeding, in a day of privation, 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But they who disbelieved in Our signs - those are the companions of the left. 19 Fire will be an awning over them. 20
