The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and a few from later times. 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 and amid the extended shade 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 We have indeed developed these women with an excellent development. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
