In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you the (sleeping) enwrapped one! 1 Keep watch all the night except some, 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 or add to it a little; and recite the Qur'an slowly and distinctly. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Glorify the Name of your Lord, the Lord of the eastern and western regions, with due sincerity. 8 (He is) Lord of the East and the West: there is no god but He: take Him therefore for (thy) Disposer of Affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand. 14 Surely We have sent unto you a Messenger as a witness over you, even as We sent to Pharaoh a Messenger, 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 Then how can you fear, if you disbelieve, a Day that will make the children white- haired? 17 The heaven will split asunder with its grief; the promise of Allah will surely occur. 18 This, surely, is an admonition. So let him who will, take the right path to his Lord. 19
